Through coaching, my clients learn how to make and sustain behavioral changes to improve their overall health.
Is coaching the same as therapy?
Coaching and therapy can work together beautifully, however they serve different purposes. Many clients engage in coaching and therapy concurrently, while some are best served by one or the other. Both coaching and therapy offer confidential, non-judgmental support in a private setting.
In therapy, the presenting issue is psychological symptoms, or distress-related impairment or function. Therapy offers the opportunity for in-depth processing to better understand, resolve and heal from emotional trauma and pain carried through from the past.
The presenting issue in coaching is the desire or need for healthy behavioral change in pursuit of higher levels of well-being. While your personal history is important, this particular methodology is action-based and forward-thinking. We will concentrate on the present and the future.
Imagine driving a car. Therapy focuses on what you see in your review mirror. Coaching targets what you envision when you look out the front windshield. In the simplest of terms, therapy is the "why", and coaching is the "how".
As we work together, should concerns surface that make you a better candidate for therapy, I am happy to provide local outpatient therapy referrals to better suit your needs.
Can I opt for one session at a time, or do I need to choose a package?
Absolutely. Every coaching program can be customized, however I encourage my clients to commit to at least three months of weekly coaching. Sessions can be scheduled and purchased as you go, or you may sign up for a 12-week block of coaching sessions at a reduced rate.
Why three months?
Studies show that it takes approximately eight weeks for new habits to take hold. In the weeks that follow, we will work on generalizing your new skills to help you gain the traction you need to move forward independently.
What if I complete 12 weeks of sessions and still feel I could benefit from additional coaching?
On occasion, new concerns or goals may arise as we work together. If we agree that you would continue to benefit from additional coaching, we can certainly arrange that.
Yes, I am pleased to offer a complimentary 15-minute discovery call to all prospective clients. It is important for us to determine if coaching is a good fit for you, and that we connect in a way that allows you to feel comfortable and safe.
